7.5 Out of 10

I never saw the original so I had nothing to compare this to but on its own this was a pretty good movie.  Lara Croft is trying to make it on her own.  She is a street fighter, bicycle messenger and all around tough young girl.  The secret is she’s worth millions of dollars  if she will just sign a paper admitting her father is dead. She believes different.  It’s been seven years and she still has faith he’s alive.
She decides to pawn the jade necklace he gave her and go to search for him.  It turns out she is right.  He has been hiding on an island trying to stop people from entering a hidden tomb that holds the secret to life itself.  After somehow getting there and finding him, she manages to break the “code” that opens the tomb and finds out what the secret really is.  Instead of being the cure to save humanity, it turns out it is a disease that if released will kill the world.  There are two teams involved here.  Lara, her father and all of the good guys.  The other team is made up of the ‘bad” guys who want to get at the secret and turn it into a fortune.  Together they make it into the tomb and find out what the secret really is.  Lara is the only one to make it out alive and all is taken care of.
After returning home and finally signing the papers, it turns out the company that is owned by Lara and her father, Croft Holdings, are the ones who are making all of the weapons being used to try to break into the tomb.  The woman who is running the company is really the one who is trying to take over the world.  A little preconceived but it works.  Overall, a pretty entertaining movie.
